Think of the tune Hot Child in the City but sub in the words “yoga time in the city.” There’s nothing like a little yoga to make summer in the city a bit more bearable (and fun!). If you live in either Boston, Miami, or New York, or if you’re planning a trip to one of these fine cities, check out the great yoga offered there:
- Boston — I used to live just outside this fine city, so I know just how cool the yoga scene is there. Often times, there’s a do-good theme, which is wonderful. Who doesn’t want to practice yoga and donate to a good cause at the same time? In the spirit of practicing yoga and practicing compassion, check out these two Boston yoga events:
- John Calabria is holding a yoga benefit at Mystic Fitness in Framingham, MA this Saturday (July 26). One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the wonderful children’s charity, The Smile Train.
- Sammi Nguyen offers outdoor yoga on the weekends. Sammi generously donates proceeds from the class to a dog rescue foundation called Underdog ResQ. Check out her blog for more information.
- Miami — This hot city is typically known for its crazy nightlife, but there’s a great yoga culture there as well. Weekly yoga classes at The Standard are raved about by yogis far and wide. Check out this video to get a sneak peak.
- New York — Let’s face it — when you think of NY, you think expensive, right? Believe it or not, NYC is a great place to find free yoga. This summer, there is free yoga every Thursday at Union Square park. What could be better than yoga in the park? You can find more information here. And, no the free yoga doesn’t end when Summer is over. The Lululemon store in Lincoln Square (they are the folks who put on the yoga in the park) offers free events throughout the year. Click here for their events page. You can also sign up for their free newsletter so event notifications come right to your inbox.
Don’t despair if you’re not a city yogi. There’s plenty of wonderful yoga out there in the suburbs. If you’re strapped and you can’t find anything in your area, there’s always the wonderful world of online yoga:
- If you’re looking for free yoga classes on a daily basis, I highly recommend Yoga Today.
- Kimberly Wilson the Hip Tranquil Chick recently posted a free yoga MP3 on her blog. You can download it here.
- For a small fee you can download yoga from Jiva Diva, My Yoga Online, YogaYak, Monthly Yoga DVD (you can get DVDs in the mail or watch classes online), Yoga Learning Center, YogaDownload.com, iAmplify, iHanuman, and BeYou.tv just to name a few.
- For the Kundalini Yoga fans out there, A-B-C-of-Yoga.com is offering a Wednesday Night Web Series featuring live Kundalini Yoga. Check it out here.
So as you can see, there’s no shortage of yoga out there — regardless of where you live. Enjoy it all!
Namaste!
