One of the lessons that I’ve learned over the years — thanks to my yoga practice — is the power of giving. In yoga circles, we speak often of Seva, or selfless service. While the idea of helping others might seem appealing, I don’t think we recognize just how much we benefit from giving. If you’re looking for a surefire way to raise your energy turn your attention to others — and give.
In the spirit of giving, I’d like to offer those of you living in or around the NYC area an opportunity to raise your energy this weekend. The Yoga Aid NYC Challenge is taking place this Saturday. Through your participation, you’ll not only raise awareness of the benefits of yoga, but you’ll also raise money for various charity projects. Participation requires a simple donation of anywhere from $5-25.
If you can’t attend (as I can’t unfortunately), there are plenty of ways for you to give back. Volunteer. Help a stranger. Donate. Giving not only does good but it feels good — and those feelings cause ripples in the pond (hence the term “pay it forward”).
If you’d like another way to raise your energy, I have a few other suggestions…
Music is always a big energy booster for me. I haven’t hidden the fact that I’m a huge kirtan/chant fan. Om Namah Shivaya is one of those chants that raises energy through wrapping you in a blanket of peacefulness. I highly suggest taking 7 minutes out of your day to listen and uplift:
Of course yoga and other types of movement also raise your energy. One of my favorite Kundalini teachers, Gurutej Kaur, offers a variety of brief but effective energy boosters on her YouTube channel. Take a look.
May you be uplifted and empowered by positive and healing energy!
Namaste!
